Embalmer Apprentice

Department: COTC Funeral Home Oakland Admin
Location: Oakland, CA

NorthStar Memorial Group is seeking an Embalmer Apprentice to join our team at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, CA. Responsibilities

  • Performs embalming, disinfecting, dressing, preparing and casketing of the deceased using appropriate precautions and OSHA standards in a manner that honors the deceased.
  • Ensure proper chain of custody is maintained throughout the preparation process.
  • Ensures embalming room, dressing areas, storage areas, and cooler facilities are cleaned, disinfected and secured at the end of every shift and maintained in that manner at all times.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations with confidence.
  • Unwavering ethical conduct and integrity.
  • Experience handling sensitive situations in a professional manner.
  • Maintain a sterile and safe work environment consistent with company, government and industry rules and regulations.
  • Completes and enforces all record keeping, identification and casketing procedures.
  • Maintain a team player mindset through working alongside an incredible team that is passionate about our profession.
  • Care for the deceased in a reverent and respectful manner.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of or currently enrolled in a diploma training program at a recognized college or technical school specializing in funeral service or mortuary science.
  • Graduation pending from accredited mortuary college or other degree as required by state/province law.

Licenses

  • Must meet all licensing requirement in applicable state/province as required by law and as prescribed by each state board.
  • Current state/province issued driver's license.

Experience

  • None required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift over 100 pounds. (Team Lift when needed)
  • Knowledge of computers and some software including MS Office products required.
  • High level of compassion and integrity.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Problem solving skills.

Compensation

  • $25-$27/Hr
